AOH Fr McKeon Division 7 New Haven
The ancient order of Hibernians is a Catholic, Irish, American fraternal organization, founded in New York City on May 4, 1836. The order can trace its roots back to a parent organization, of the same name, which has existed in Ireland for over 300 years. However, While the organizations share a common thread, the north of American AOH is a separate and much larger organization. The ancient order of Hibernians in America was founded on May 4, 1836 at New Yorkâs Saint. James church, to protect the clergy and, and church property From the âno nothing âand their followers. At the same time, the vast influx of Irish immigrants flying famine issues in Ireland and the late 1840s, prompted a growth of various social societies in the USA, the largest of which was, and continues to be the ancient order of Hibernians , the AOH has been at the political forefront for issues concerning the Irish, such as immigration reform, economic incentives, both here and an Ireland, the human rights issues addressed in the McBride legislation, right to life, and a peaceful, and just solution to the issues that divide Ireland. You may further seek admittance to the finest Irish Catholic organization in the world. All we would ask is for you to live our motto of âfriendship, unity, and Christian charityâ.

Connecticut Free Masons
Marching under the banner of the Fourth Masonic District here are the The Ancient Free and Accepted Masons otherwise known simply as the Freemasons. Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternal order in the world boasting six million members with just under two million in the United States alone. Of the nine Masonic districts in Connecticut, the Fourth includes Lodges in Branford, Cheshire, Madison, Meriden, Milford, North Haven, Hamden, West haven, Wallingford and five Lodges here in New Haven.
New Haven is proud to be the birthplace of Freemasonry in Connecticut with its first Lodge charted in 1750 and led by American Revolution hero, General David Wooster. Wooster Square, famous for its New Haven pizza, is named after this legendary figure. Other notable Connecticut Freemasons were inventor Samuel Colt, Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam, Congressman Lyman Law, and Yale Professor Hiram Bingham III (a.k.a. The original Indiana Jones.)
The list of notable Freemasons throughout history is extensive but includes such men as George Washington, Nat King Cole, and Irish playwright, Oscar Wilde. More recent Masonic celebrities include NBA legend, Shaquille O'Neal, country music star, Brad Paisley and Apple Computer founder, Steve Wozniak.
Freemasons in popular culture have appeared in novels by Dan Brown and Ken Follet, and in such movies as National Treasure and The Man Who Would Be King.
Preferring to be known as a âSociety with Secretsâ Freemasonry accepts men from all walks of life regardless of religion, political affiliation, race, or economic status. In fact, Freemasons accept all good men who have a sincere desire to become better men.
To learn more about Freemasonry, visit the Grand Lodge of Connecticut website at CTFreemasons.net or contact your local Lodge.
