Evanston Boy Scout Troop 924 with the Evanston Fourth of July Association Liberty Bell Float
Scouting America Troop 924 is one of the oldest troops in Evanston. The Troop was chartered 95 years ago, in 1929, and has been meeting at Northminster Presbyterian Church ever since. It is committed to providing opportunities for leadership, citizenship, outdoor skills, and service to all youths between the ages of 11 and 18. In 2023, the troop established a Girls Troop, marking an exciting new chapter in its long history. This summer, the scouts will embark on an adventure to summer camp at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation, and a skilled group of scouts just returned from a 50-mile backpacking trip through the Smoky Mountains. Troop 924 is honored to carry the Liberty Bell replica in Evanstonâs annual 4th of July Parade, which stands as a symbol of freedom and justice for all Americans.

Canal Shores Golf Course
The Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association and KemperSports, in partnership with The Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation, the First Tee of Greater Chicago, and Wadsworth Charities, began a full restoration of the course in June of 2023. Golf course management has targeted early August to open the holes north of Central Street, with the full 18 holes ready for play in the Spring of 2025. As part of the renovation project, the course is being rebranded as The Evans at Canal Shores. The new name represents the deep connection between the Evans Scholars Foundation and Chick Evans. Mr. Evans attended high school in Evanston and was one of the greatest amateur golfers of all time. The Evans at Canal Shores will continue to focus on youth development while offering a caddie training program for area youth. Please go to www.canalshores.org for more information.
