Jim served as the Chair of the Christmas Parade for the last 25+ years, until his untimely death in December 2020. Jim was a lifelong Battle Creek area resident who took pride in his community and was active in many organizations over the years.
His family present tonight include his wife (Denise), two children (CJ and Stephanie, and their families), and his mother (Lugene).
His daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Zack Cornish are happy to be taking the reigns and stepping into the big shoes Jim left behind to make sure the parade continues on along with the Harper Creek Optimist Club. Jim loved parade season: the planning, organizing and seeing it all come together on Parade night. He would be proud to see the Parade carry-on. His daughter Stephanie said: We're confident he'll be watching over the parade tonight, and in the years to come, smiling at the community coming together.

Suicide Prevention and Awareness of Calhoun County
Suicide Prevention and Awareness of Calhoun County is a non-profit organization focusing on Calhoun County and some of our surrounding areas. We spread awareness about suicide prevention to school aged children, young adults, veterans and the community as a whole. We raise money to place Buddy Benches in our area schools and local businesses. A buddy bench is designed for individuals to sit on if they are having a bad day, need someone to talk to, or if they are feeling lonely. Someone will notice and go over and strike up a conversation with them, ask them to play, etc. Be a Buddy NOT A BULLY! There are approximately 75 benches out in our community!
Suicide Prevention and Awareness of Calhoun County also helps our local veterans. Last Christmas we stuffed Christmas stocking for 175 residents, and replenished the food pantry at Silver Starr Apartment Complex, a veterans housing facility. It's okay to have a bad day.......you're never alone!!
