Mayor Jim Brainard
Mayor Jim Brainard is Carmelââ¬â¢s first seven-term mayor. During that time, Carmel has grown in population from 25,000 to almost 102,000. Parkland, greenspace and trails have increased. The development of an Arts & Design District, a downtown called City Center and a new Midtown project joining the two together has helped in the creation of a vibrant, thriving city where companies want to locate, where employees want to live and where families want to raise their children. Mayor Brainard is frequently asked to speak around the world about city planning, redevelopment, roadway networks and climate policy. He has encouraged the construction of roundabouts which reduces accidents with injury almost 80 percent at intersections when contrasted to signalized intersections. Carmel now has more than 130 roundabout intersections, the most of any other city in the U.S. Mayor Brainard serves as a Trustee and Co-chair of the Energy Independence and Climate Protection Task Force for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
