Connecticut Freemasons
As the oldest, largest, and best known fraternal organization in the world, Freemasonry opens its doors to all who endorse its teachings. A strong belief in family, community, pride in our country, and sound ethical and moral values are what distinguish the Masonic fraternity. Our strength lies in the unity of our conviction to these ideals.
Freemasonry is the oldest fraternal organization in the world. It is dedicated to promoting improvement in the character of its members. A Mason is taught to be a good citizen. To be of good character. To care for those less fortunate, and to give back to his community.
The Masonic fraternity contributes over $1 Billion each year to its philanthropic pursuits. Over $750 Million of that in the United States alone. The Crippled Childrenââ¬â¢s and Burns Hospitals sponsored by Shrine Masons are world famous for their ability to help those most in need.
Freemasonry traces its roots to the Middle Ages. It is from associations of stone masons, who built the magnificent cathedrals, castles, and monasteries of Europe that the fraternity started. These groups, eventually, began to accept members who were not actual working masons. At that time they adopted the term ââ¬ÅAcceptedââ¬Â Masons, and Freemasonry was born. A New Haven Masonic Lodge Hiram Lodge No 1 was chartered on November 12, 1750 and held its first meeting in the following December. As such it is the oldest lodge in the state of Connecticut and about the seventh oldest in the US. Hiram Lodge has had many notable members ranging from Benedict Arnold to Hiram Bingham (the discoverer of Macchu Picchu) and often counted many of the top members of New Haven society on itââ¬â¢s rolls. Our first master was David Wooster, later hero of the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. He had gathered a group of Masons in New Haven together to petition for a charter. The other charter members appear to have been Samuel Mansfield, John Eliot, Nathan Whiting, Elihu Lyman and Jehiel Tuttle.

Pioneers of The Sacred Heart
The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart was founded in 1898 by Father James Cullen, S.J., in Dublin, Ireland.
The primary aim of the Association is the promotion of sobriety and temperance, through prayer and self-sacrifice
In 1958 a group of young Irish immigrants living and working in the greater New Haven area decided to form a local Pioneer Center. These immigrants were all members of the Pioneers of the Sacred Heart in Ireland and wished to continue their pledge of lifetime abstinence from alcohol and drugs
Over the next fifty years many of that initial, young group of immigrants who formed St. Maryââ¬â¢s Center, remained faithful to their ideals, and in 2018 celebrated their Diamond Jubilee.
There are approximately one hundred active, local members remaining in the group today.

Police Pipes & Drums of Waterbury
On December 18, 1992 Walter T. Williams III, a Waterbury police officer, was killed in the line of duty (http://www.odmp.org/officer/434-officer-walter-t-williams-iii). At the time there was no police pipe band in Connecticut. Our brothers in the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums responded and escorted Officer Williams to his final resting place. Days later a group of dedicated officers vowed to never again follow as one of their own was laid to restââ¬Â¦ they would lead from the front and the Police Pipes and Drums of Waterbury was born.
Throughout the years the Police Pipes and Drums of Waterbury has remained steadfast in our commitment to the law enforcement community. We have participated in countless law enforcement benefits, fundraisers, promotions, retirements, graduations, memorial services and funerals. The band has been an annual participant at National Police Week in Washington, DC which attracts thousands of law enforcement officers from all over the world. In fact, our reputation there has earned us the distinct privilege of being ââ¬Åhost bandââ¬Â two times, an honor not afforded to any other pipe band that we are aware of.
We have had many unique and diverse performance opportunities which have included well known celebrities and dignitaries, parades, charitable events, weddings, birthday parties and the West Point Military Tattoo. In addition, we have multiple first place, ââ¬Åbest pipe bandââ¬Â and ââ¬Åbest musical unitââ¬Â awards among many other recognitions from our participation in juried events.
Our tartan is the Scottish National Modern. We wear a ââ¬Åfull dressââ¬Â uniform for formal or special events and a less formal uniform, with variations, for other events.

Funky Dawgz Brass Band
The Funky Dawgz Brass Band are one of the premier touring acts on the live music scene today. Emerging from Connecticut, these young men have engulfed the spirit and traditions of New Orleans as well as earned the respect from local musicians who grew up and reside in the city. It is impossible not to enjoy yourself during a show as they play a contagious upbeat mix of traditional New Orleans R&B, original music, hip hop, funk, and todayââ¬â¢s top hits with a brass twist.
They have toured nationally from coast to coast, as well as internationally and have been featured in all corners of the live music scene. From playing sold out shows at Madison Square Garden as the horn section for Dispatch, to Camp Bisco, to closing out The Peach Music Festival, their performances flow seamlessly from EDM festivals to jam band festivals to traditional New Orleans second line parades. They were also recently featured multiple times on national televised programming on ESPN (house band for March Madness Tournament Challenge, opening segment of First Take).
There is a reason they were featured as one of Live For Live Music's Brass Bands You Need To Know. The Funky Dawgz are dropping jaws. These high energy horns have been featured on bills with Dispatch, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, We The Kings, Snarky Puppy, The Soul Rebels, Lettuce, The Motet, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Twiddle, Turkuaz, Kung Fu, Bernard Purdie, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Big Samââ¬â¢s Funky Nation, and the list continues.
When the band is not playing shows they are giving back to the community. The Funky Dawgz aim to connect, engage, inspire and rejuvenate music education in inner city schools across the country. The band frequently gives performances and master classes to young musicians in elementary, middle, and high schools across the region.
Come see what all the hype is about.
