An important part of Good Neighbor Fest is slowing down and thinking of our friends and neighbors who need our support. This year, 33,000 people in Wisconsin will learn they have cancer. And thatââ¬â¢s why Gildas Club exists - to provide FREE emotional support, cancer education, and hope to more than 3,000 children and adults affected by cancer.
Riding in the red convertible you will see Gildaââ¬â¢s volunteers of the year, Faye Antolec. Each week she greets families facing cancer and manages our library. Walking along you will also see folks from Edgewood College Child Life Association, the recipients of the ââ¬ÅCommunity Partnership Award.ââ¬Â Join me in a round of applause to say thank you to these amazing volunteers and save the date for Gildaââ¬â¢s Run/Walk on October 14th.

Good Neighbor Award Winners: Deb and Scott Bram, Jennifer Broadly, Molly Duffy, Gary Gmur
Congratulations to all five of our 2018 Good Neighbor Award Winners!
Scott and Deb Bram have spent decades entertaining the children of Middleton on Halloween night by turning their yard into a haunted forest. Hundreds of kids from all over the city come to their home on Wood Road to experience the spooky spectacle. The Brams begin working on their haunted yard in early October all of it done at their own expense, and treat our communityââ¬â¢s kids to a fun Halloween. Thank you, Scott and Deb Bram!
Jennifer Broadley is the Aquatic Director at the Walter R. Bauman pool. Jennifer has had an impact on nearly every family in Middleton that has passed through swim lessons at the Middleton Pool. She goes beyond her job description to make the pool a truly neighborly place, and to encourage the best qualities in her lifeguards, teachers, staff, and students. Congratulations, Jennifer Broadley!
Award winner, Molly Duffy, founded the Middleton United Soccer program, now serving over 900 youth members. Molly engages with each of the players so that they know she cares. To her, guiding a young athlete is not about the game or the score, but about creating positive experiences, modeling good sportsmanship and mentoring children who care about those around them. Thanks, Molly Duffy!
Gary Gmur is an everyday hero to his neighbors. Gary has used his handyman skills to help a neighbor build a patio, build playground equipment for another neighbor, and is the neighbor that helps on moving day and who is always keeping an eye out for his neighbors. Thanks to his watchful eye, he saved a house on his street from burning down. Gary works for the Middleton Fire Department, but his saving the house was not part of his regular workday. He noticed a fire in the neighborââ¬â¢s garage, which could have easily destroyed the entire home. Gmurââ¬â¢s quick thinking saved the house before the homeowners even knew it was on fire. Well done, Gary Gmur!

Here's Jonathan Bee riding his 52-inch High Wheel bicycle. These bikes were built for speed and were popular only from around 1870 to 1890 when the so-called safety bicycle with smaller wheels and a chain and sprocket was introduced. These bikes are also called Penny Farthings because in old British currency, the penny coin was very large and the farthing was very small, like the wheels on these bikes. Many of these bikes, like Jonathan's, had no brakes. The biggest danger was to do a "header," in which, due to a pothole or some other obstacle in the roadway, the rider would fly head first over the handlebars.

Mollie B Polka Concert at Park Elementary
Come and enjoy a 2-hour polka show by Mollie B featuring Squeezebox Ted Lange and the Jim Busta Band.
