The Connecticut Patriots Fife and Drum Corps from Bristol, CT
The Connecticut Patriots Fife and Drum Corps proudly hails from Bristol, CT. The group was founded in 1978 by a group of like-minded musicians who wished to create a group that prides itself on strong musicianship and marching. The Patriots play arrangements of music from the Revolutionary War to Celtic to today. Using wooden fifes and rope-tension drums, the group has travelled all over the world, having performed most recently in Switzerland and England. The corps enjoys performing music that pushes the envelope of what fife and drum corps could be, keeping one foot in the door of tradition and the other, innovation.

Marching under the banner of the Fourth Masonic District here are the The Ancient Free and Accepted Masons otherwise known simply as the Freemasons. Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternal order in the world boasting six million members with just under two million in the United States alone. Of the nine Masonic districts in Connecticut, the Fourth includes Lodges in Branford, Cheshire, Madison, Meriden, Milford, North Haven, Hamden, West haven, Wallingford and five Lodges here in New Haven.
New Haven is proud to be the birthplace of Freemasonry in Connecticut with its first Lodge charted in 1750 and led by American Revolution hero, General David Wooster. Wooster Square, famous for its New Haven pizza, is named after this legendary figure. Other notable Connecticut Freemasons were inventor Samuel Colt, Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam, Congressman Lyman Law, and Yale Professor Hiram Bingham III (a.k.a. The original Indiana Jones.)
The list of notable Freemasons throughout history is extensive but includes such men as George Washington, Nat King Cole, and Irish playwright, Oscar Wilde. More recent Masonic celebrities include NBA legend, Shaquille O'Neal, country music star, Brad Paisley and Apple Computer founder, Steve Wozniak.
Freemasons in popular culture have appeared in novels by Dan Brown and Ken Follet, and in such movies as National Treasure and The Man Who Would Be King.
Preferring to be known as a âSociety with Secretsâ Freemasonry accepts men from all walks of life regardless of religion, political affiliation, race, or economic status. In fact, Freemasons accept all good men who have a sincere desire to become better men.
To learn more about Freemasonry, visit the Grand Lodge of Connecticut website at CTFreemasons.net or contact your local Lodge.
