Grand Marshal Daniel O'Connell
Daniel O'Connell, a lifelong resident of Burlington County, has dedicated his career to public service and union advocacy, making him an ideal choice to lead this year's parade. O'Connell, who has lived in Delran for more than 30 years and has called Burlington County home for nearly 65 years, has served his community in a number of significant ways, from his work as a locomotive engineer to his leadership roles in local government and organized labor.
O'Connell's career as a locomotive fireman and engineer spanned across major transportation systems including Penn Central, CONRAIL, and New Jersey Transit. His leadership extended beyond the tracks as he became an advocate for workers' rights, serving as a local union representative and eventually as the New Jersey State Legislative Director for the United Transportation Union (UTU). In this role, he worked tirelessly on legislation at both the state and federal levels to protect the rights of transportation workers.
This years' parade theme will honor the men and women of the organized labor and the countless Irish men and women who have fought for labor rights throughout the years including James Connolly, Mother Jones and Daniel O'Connell with a special recognition of "Essential Workers"
Now retired, O'Connell remains active in his community. He is a member of the Rancocas Nature Center, the Burlington County YMCA, and volunteers at WXPN, a public radio station in Philadelphia. His commitment to service extended into local politics, where he served on the Delran Township Council and as a Burlington County Commissioner, holding various leadership roles, including liaison to the Health Department, Schools, and Elections.
O'Connell's Irish heritage is a source of pride for him. The son of the late Michael (Mickey) O'Connell and Rita O'Connell (nee O'Brien), he was raised with a strong connection to his Irish roots. Both his maternal and paternal grandparents were born in Ireland, and O'Connell has traveled there on multiple occasions, visiting his family's ancestral homes in County Clare and County Kilkenny. He is a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an organization that honors Irish heritage and culture

Miss Saint Patrick
Kathleen Elizabeth Wagner, better known as âKatâ by many, is a Burlington Township resident and 11th grader who is educated at home. Besides being a Junior in high school, she has been a Girl Scout for 8+ years in Troop 23371 where she has earned her Bronze Award, the highest award a Girl
Scout Junior can earn. Kat also sells cookies during the Cookie Program and earns badges and Journeys by learning and doing various activities. She earned her CIT (Counselor In Training) award pin and Service to Girl Scouting Bar. She is very active in her Girl Scout troop and plans to earn
her Gold Award (The highest award a Girl Scout can earn) in the near future. She also enjoys and has shown leadership by helping the younger Girl Scouts and doing community service with her troop.
When Kat is not busy with Girl Scouts, she dances three nights a week at Edge Dance Center where she takes Ballet, Contemporary and Tap. She started dancing at Edge when she was Five years old up
to when she was nine when she decided to take a break from dancing due to her favorite dance teacher leaving. This caused her to temporarily fall out of love with dance because âIt didnât feel
the sameâ. At the end of COVID in 2021, she decided to take up dancing once again. Kat plans to dance at the studio she goes to as long as she can because her passion for dance has returned, burning brighter than before.
Kat has been involved in the Burlington County Saint Patrickâs Day parade her whole life. Her first few parades she sat on the parade route with her mother Jessica and various family members while
her dad Jon drove his tow truck in the parade. As she got older, she helped her father prep the flatbed to be parade ready by cleaning and painting it. When Kat was three years old, she was finally old enough to ride in the truck with her parents and her older sister, Abby. She waved to the spectators and threw candy to them.
Kat rode in the truck until she joined Girl Scouts and she decided to walk with her troop in the parade. She enjoyed helping the other Girl Scouts carry her troopâs banner. Kat still helps with prepping the truck to this day as it has become a family tradition that her younger sister Carolina helps with. There are many pictures of Kat posing with people who have been in past parades such as the Irish band The Mulligans and previous Miss St.
Patricks.
While Kat is still learning about her Irish heritage, she has recently received information from a family member that her paternal side dates back to the early 1800s. The oldest known ancestor was born in Tulla, Clare, Ireland under the last name Shanahan which changed to Shannon sometime in the early 1800s due to unknown reasons. Kat was informed that there was Irish heritage on her mothers
side but the history is unknown

The Mulligans
What can be said about the Mulligans and Burlington County that hasn't been said before? They have been a part of this parade since the inception. Does this make them parade royalty? Do they need to be inducted into our own 10-timers club? Will they fit into those velvet jackets? Whatever the answer is, they are not smart enough to remember. Hailing from Erie, Pennsylvania, the Mulligans play in the Cleveland and Buffalo areas, but still can't seem to get arrested in Pittsburgh. Luckily, the have found a second home here in Mount Holly! Every year they brave the elements across the state of PA to play the parade and other local establishments. Every year they play their blend of Irish, Country and American drinking songs. And every year they are surprised, honored and shocked when they are asked back to perform again! Check out their live album and three EP releases on all streaming services!
